Overmoding

Hey all,

I just finished my first attempt at a professional sounding song - I used a singer I met on myspaces and the OSS software Audacity - both of which were from suggestions made on this site. So thanks for that! I'll post the link to the song when I get it online if anyone wans to listen.

Anyway, one question - when I attempt to amplify the final mix to be as loud as possible, it overmods (at least I think that's the term - the meter goes into the red). Yet when I play other songs they are much louder and yet they don't overmod. Can anyone explain this in easy to follow terms?

Cray

its called compression and theres no simple way to explain it, there are easy to follow terms but this should be adressed in the production forum- if you dont have a track this is not where to post.

When the meter goes into the positives, commonly colored as red, it is referred to as clipping. Why? because when it is converted the peaks that break the 0.0 dB level get clipped off. That, my friend, is bad.
