It was working fine up until an hour or so ago, when it died.
The battery light is flashing red, but the light that indicates it's plugged in doesn't light up until I try to boot it up. It starts to boot, but then just dies on the Windows XP loading screen.
Is it likely to be something so simple as a shitty power cable? Or, since I already know that the battery is pretty damn shagged, could it be that the battery is so dead that it won't even boot while plugged in?
