running a DJ setup from my trunk

I have always been intrigued by the idea of hooking up my cd tables and mixer in my trunk on a custom rack so that I can mix wherever I am. I've looked at power inverters but am unsure what capacity I might need to power all the hardware (2 CDJ-200's and 1 DJM-600). I would be running the sound through my head unit via rca cables. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

hahah... funny you started this thread, cuz i'm taking on a DIY project of putting a DJ setup into my trunk.. all retractable and shtuff.. ....

but yea... for each piece of gear you plug into the powerbar, just add up the watts that each unit has in it's specifications (on the back of the unit or in the manual under power consumption).

ex..
cdj800 x2 = 20w each x2 = 40w
mixer = 45w

45+40 = 85 watts, plus add a few just in case you add something else....
like a mp3 recorder or something...

you roughly need 100watts for sure. That's almost the smallest inverter you can get for Canadian Tire.... about $40 I think.

When I do this I'm running a 200w inverter for a slew of "just in case" ideas.

remember to make sure your inverter for this application has a grounding plug.... you don't want un-grounded audio gear.

good luck!

thanks for the response...I hope your DIY project turns out well and please post some pictures when its all said and done!

Do you have any recommendations as to a particular brand of power inverter or does it really matter?

brand doesn't matter, but remember you usually get what you pay for when it comes to mass conglomerate retail.
I think mine's a Motomaster or something like that.
