It's weird.
Sure, I like my family, but my relationship with my mother used to be somewhat strained, and I'm still very distant from both of my parents. My mother wanted us to live a sheltered life, and I've always been way too independent; also, our world-views were incompatible (e.g. she's a religious zealot and I'm an atheist), to the point she started to antagonise me. She one day snapped out of it, but I still feel odd around her.
As for the rest of the family, I tend to see my father as an example to be followed, and I think my siblings are weak (because, as I fought for my independence, my sister became frustrated in her passivity and my brother became a grumpy couch potato)... probably the fear of becoming like them has kept me going far more than anything else
