Demo is available at Ableton.com. Very slow download rate right now, assuming many people are downloading it .
Can't wait to try out the new tools, jolly golly oh boy oh boy!

Downloaded it last night. Its a free upgrade for those who got Live 6 within the past 6 months. I haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet, but apparently they have added a lot of new useful features like native sidechaining, added new virtual instruments, added a new external instrument plugin and given a few plugins a major facelift. The GUI has largely remained the same, save a few color tweaks. The selected color is now a desaturated orange rather than the lime green of previous releases.
I only use it for DJing and minor producing duties (Logic is my main DAW), but the new features certainly seem great for those who do their producing in Ableton exclusively.

Any of you who've used it, is it just me or does the native sidechain suck major ass?

I was playing around with it all day yesterday. Upon first look it doesn't seem like a big upgrade but the more you use it the more you notice new things which are definitely a big improvement.
The two biggest ones for me are the Drum Racks and multiple automation lanes. The new EQ8 is pretty wicked too.

Yea not a fan. I just use that free VST...uummm can't remember it's name anymore :P
Sidekick?
Ya I used it too, only grudge is the lack of virtual channels you can assign it to. Really limited, unless I didn't use it right. Could only get like 3 things max sidechained

Just to clarify: "All users who buy and unlock their Live 6 or Live 6 upgrade between October 1, 2007 and January 31, 2008 are eligible for a free download upgrade to Ableton Live 7, plus special upgrade offers on Ableton Suite."

Sidekick started freaking out on me and losing settings when I'd save and open a projects in Live. Really strange as it didn't do it for the first month I used it. I HIGHLY recommend chunkware vanilla: http://www.chunkware.com/?page_id=5.
What about Live's new sidechain sucks?

Good stuff, thanks for the link. And ya, sidekick did the same for me numerous times.
Might just be cause I'm not used to it, but so far I'm not liking the feel of it.

There is also that red sidechain compressor: slimslowslider.
My wishlist when Live 7 was announced (actually even before that):
quote:
- folder tracks
- bezier curves (heck any curves)
- absolute input for them nasty automation dots (read somewhere on the ableton forum many moons ago that they were considering this)
- snap to grid automation. although there is a small workaround for this, it would be nicer to have a snap for individual points
- not entirely important, but dualscreen support would be ace
I don't think I need to ask, but none of these have been implemented have they? Won't be upgrading in that case.

1. Nope but hopefully next time
2. Nope
3. Possible, though I'm not sure.
4. I don't think so
5. LOL! We've been campaigning for that for years!
