May 01 is the International Workers Day
People in the US don't celebrate it because of the protests that took place in Chicago on May 01, 1886 in which the workers were on strike demanding eight-hour work days. The police attacked the striking workers, killing six of them. During the cold war it had a reputation of being a "Communist" holiday
