philosophy essay

I'm sitting here trying to write an essay due in about 18 hours, and I don't even bloody understand the source material I'm supposed to be writing about. That makes things difficult.

Any advice? I'm not really good at bullshitting when it comes to philosophy, since I'm a biology major.

btw I'm supposed to be writing about the Encheiridion by Epictetus. I'm supposed to basically explain it briefly, state an objection, and then either approve of or refute that objection.

Not really.

I'm a jack of all trades, master of none. I'm just totally not in paper writing mood right now, that's all.

Yes, I'm sure that's it.

How long have you had to "understand" the source material? A week? Two weeks?

Why then, a mere 18 hours from the submission time, do you not know the subject matter that you are supposed to write an essay on? Again: How long have you had to write this essay? A week? More?

To say you're "not in the mood" in fine, and I completely believe you. I've rarely met a student that was in the mood to write an essay. I never was.

Have you not bothered to familiarize yourself with the subject matter? Surely your classes would have been based around this topic in some way?

Epictetus was a Stoic. So try arguing that it's better to take the bad with the good than just spending your whole life trying to run away from pain (which is basically what Stoic philosophy is about).
