Seems to be blowing up in the UK underground (T2 - Heartbroken being the biggest song at the moment), currently, as sort of a counterpoint to the dubstep/grime scene. To me, it sounds like '97 era speed garage with updated production and some of the elements that 2-step and electro-house brought to the table since then. Anybody here into it?
I was never much for speed garage, but if this indicates that a full-on 2-step revival is in order a few years down the line, I'm all for it!

it's the same old 4x4 garage with a new name.

Re: Bassline House?
Bassline house aka 4x4 aka nu-speed garage aka whatever is the shittiest genre ever. It has literally nothing going for it.
Hold tight the Fruity Loops massive.
A 2-step revival is more likely to come from dubstep, where syncopation and swing are more prevalent. I'm waiting for this aswell, but if it happens it should stay in the underground.

Bassline house? As opposed to what, no-bassline house?
Ugh. You don't need to tell me. Speed garage/bassline house is massive in Sheffield, and it seems to be spreading all over the local area, so I'm now hearing it where I live too.
As I understand it, bassline house is just speed garage with a four on the floor beat and no less shit for it.
Oh, and as an anecdote of how it's starting to get into the mainstream: a couple of weeks ago I heard local DJ Dickhead mix Heartbroken into Put Your Hands Up For Detroit. It must have been a key clash because the entire transition felt like someone was running a rusty nail file across the surface of my brain.
