REVIEW: Trancegate

Well i just woke up so i figure ill post about the night last night. I guess we got there at around 10pm, we waited in line for about 15 minutes then we were in. This was BY FAR the best i have ever seen riverside set up. I couldnt believe the amount of lights that were set up, and they even had 2 lazers, Plaza parties usually dont even have 2 of them. The stage looked really good, the DJ was about 5 feet higher then usual. Kickass sound system, thw massive speaker blocks on either side of the DJ. This was the loudest riverside party ive been to in at least a year. When i got hom my ears were ringing....soooo pounding. The second room wasnt to hot but with the dj's that were in the mainroom it didnt really matter. and YES all the headliners showed up.

DJ Morgan spun a pretty entertaining set. All really raw sounding Nu-Nrg. Ive seen him a couple times before and this was no where near the best ive seen him spin. Lots of sloppy mixing, 1 BAD trainwreck, and he spun back the record at the end of his mixes at least 10 times throughout his set. Next up was Marco V. I was just blown away from his set. Sooooo good. He played really hard and really fast. I think he played for around 2 and a half hours. Mixing was pretty much flawless and his records just destroyed that place. If anyone sort of remembers the tracks he played i need to find out the name of the track he played before "Trance and acid". This set was probably in my top5 for all the sets i have ever seen in vancouver. I didnt stay around for Jurgen as i was really tired, sort of sounded like it was going to be pretty cheesey from what i heard at the start of his set. so i guess we left at around 4:30

You have no idea how impressed i am with Shybrothers. Let me tell ya it was a VERY small crowd, riverside was only about half way full. I have no idea how the managed to bring down all 3 of there headliners plus have such an amazing setup. any other company in Van would have cut the headliners and the lights if ticket sales were so low. I doubt they even broke even on this party.

As for the crowd itself...like ALWAYS.....what a fucking mess. People were FUCKED, Man these new party kids dont mess around when it comes to their drugs. I couldnt believe how fucking high EVERYONE in that building was. I wouldnt be suprised if the three of us that went were the ONLY sober ones in the building. But i guess thats how all partys are these days so we cant hold that against the promoters.

My only problem was that bottles of Water were 5 bux. I have never seen water for more then 3 bux even at the plaza. Pop was 2 bux so i bought a can of sprite and filled it with water....hehe im a bit of a cheapskate.

Anyway all round a kickass party, wish i brought a camera so you guys could have seen how good riverside looked. I think the shybrothers are planning a BIG party coming up, ill be looking forward to it for sure.

this was my first rave and i dunno if it's normal, but what was annoying were the old asian people...they were prolly the most fucked up outta everyone there...and there were so many of them! i have nothing against asian people, i myself am chinese. but shit...when you people that could be your parents and even grandparents all fucked up and shit, it's mighty disturbing.

but overall i had a great time, Marco V rocked. Jurgen sounded pretty cheesy, although mixing silence on top of for an angel sounded pretty cool.

Ya the asians are normal in the Vancouver rave scene. Ive been going to partys for almost 4 years and its the same fucked up asians at EVERY party, they usually take over the front. They usually keep to themselves but its really creepy when they get all friendly and shit

Awesome! My first rave, I did feel a little awkward at first, didn't how waas it gonna be. But it was worth every green buck (not green in canada tho...)

I pretty much enjoyed most of the music, at this kind of events U gotta be able to enjoy most of the music (even house/hard-house/nu-nrg aren't my usual) and dance to it.

I did notice the asian crowd but some were nice (whoever noticed the girl with the lights, she was dancing all the time which is cool). As for drugs, I've been asked if I can provide some stuff. And at some point I almost got sick cuz of the weed smoke combined with sweat and all that.

Yo how was everyone dressed up? I had a red airwalk t-shirt and some cream pants... a red and a blue glowstick... well, not that much gear but it's just the first rave, I'm learning.

I also heard from a friend of mine that the ShyBrothers lost money at this event... but they don't actually care, they're going to do it again. Also, they went to school at Burnaby North (or Central... already forgot).

So bottom line is it was a great thing, waiting for others to come, bigger and better. The Brothers did it!

ya man the crowd was going off to marco.

hypronix you dont need to dress up to go to a party. I have been going for 4 years now and all of us dress in normal clothes. Believe me glowstixs are very looked down upon in the rave scene except by newer people. For almost a year me and my girlfriend went around stealing glowstixs from people.....it was a boring year
hahah i love these new faces

Sounds like it was a great party. I just hope that Shy Bros made some decent cash off the event so their next party will be just as good or better.

I guess a lotta peoples didn't turn out because of the whole (trance sucks) thing. Lots of people call it 'E-tard' music or candy raver music. I just don't understand why alota people(especially in Clubvibes) hate trance. I'll admit trance is more of 'drug music' but a lot of music is, and not just electronic music.

yo yo yo.. U guys sure that it was Marco V still playing at For an Angel? cuz he looked different to me i thought he was Jurgen by that time. didn't stay throught the whole thing tho.

as for clothing, in fact i was just curious if i saw any fellow TAs, not about the dressed-up thing. u go 4 the vibe, not to impress. at least i think that.

yeah, yeah, my first rave, what do u want i came to the west 9 months ago and i really didn't have tie for anything like this so far... as for the glowstick/gadget part, it was something i thought of trying. next time, i don't now.

but i felt good. that's all i care.

P.S. as i said, the Brothers lost money. also, rumour is, their next gig's in august

I was just pointing out that Jurgen was not mixing silence over for an angel that it is an track that I have heard for sale somewhere.

I wasn't talking about Marco. He is probably too hard for that.
