I think it's a bloody rip off how Bookstores and Card stores are still charging customers Canadian prices!
With our dollar at par now, how can they justify us still having to pay another $2.00 more per card?!!
I went into Hallmark and Carlton Cards today and asked both if they are now charging the US prices, they said No, but we have specials on. Hallmark is giving us $1.00 off any card that's over $2.49, and Carlton Cards is saying Buy 3 get 3 Free. These are promotions that they could run anytime of the year, and not just for x-mas.
I haven't been to buy any books from a bookstore in a while, but I'm assuming they are still charging Canadian prices on the covers as well.
Doesn't there have to be some sorta consumer protection act that protects us from this sorta thing? How or where can we, as consumers, express ourselves in a more appropriate manner, to someone that will listen?????

just because our dollar is worth more on an international scale doesnt mean that we, as canadians, are getting paid different. if the numbers on your paycheque changed whenever the CAD went up or down then you can argue about this.

stfu. I have every right to argue about this. The cost of books and cards are not based on how much I make, but the difference in our dollars.

Jon Jon, I have no idea what that pic means
u forget the logistics of the chains i guess...when stuff is shipped out, they are produced at a certain value and are already paid for by the store that is recieving the merchandise...a month later when the value of the dollar changes, its kinda hard for them to charge u cost price
(yes lets get into the actual cost price vs. markup price cos thas what u really should be complaining about and not just now but all year round)

I agree it's hard for them to suddenly change the price.
However, I think they should just remove the printed prices from them all together.
umm, did you have US currency with you?
because over the past week I have bought plenty of books/cards from chapters and hallmark and i've paid them in american dollars.
although they resisted at first, but after literally 5 seconds with the manager they had no choice but to let me buy the stuff, for the marked price.

...Economies of Scale...
All goods should be cheaper in the US then in Canada.
