what is this genre?

what is the type of music in Sasha - Involver called? progressive breaks? i've scoured the breaks section in beatport and it is all robot-breaks, which is not what i'm looking for. what are some of the artists, labels, classics i should check out?

Yes, I would say most of those tracks are declared Progressive and/or Melodic Breaks. If you're looking for artists in the same genre, I would check out Hybrid, Digital Witchcraft, Sasha (somewhat dabbles in this genre), Way Out West (Mindcircus original mix comes to mind).

I'm not too fluent in the genre myself so I only know of the 'bigger' names really. There's a lot of great tracks to be found in Prog Breaks but you definately have to do some digging to find them.

Good luck.

EDIT: Yes, it will be difficult sifting through the breaks section at beatport because they don't sort the tracks the same way they do with house. Best to just search by artist really when looking for prog breaks on beatport.

Yeah, although I don't recall most of the material fitting as squarely within a particular genre as some other tracks, it's largely Progressive Breaks.

As for productions of a similar style, I would highly recommend some of the tracks put forth by Peter Martin. Although he doesn't primarily produce in Breaks, his work in that area has been quite gorgeous- very melodic and atmospheric. Here's some of his tracks I suggest you check out:

Changing in the Face of Grace
Distant Reflection
Simply Blue- although it's not Breaks, he intersperses it with some very well placed break-beat sequences, and I suspect it might agree with you.

He also has a nice little number he did with Derek Howell under their Pinkbox Special alias:

Pinkbox Special- Nice Guys Finish Last.

Unfortunately. Nevertheless, there's still some prog. breaks on Toes In The Sand Recordings, Arctic Wave Records and GU

Darvin Knorr - All These Things

This set is the shit, really melodic dreamy breaks. He posted it here on TA, too lazy to find the thread though.

If you sign up for that site you can download the set for free.
