headphone modifications

so have people made any mods to their headphones?
i was getting annoyed with my sony mdr-7506 being too close to my ear so i thought i'd replace the ear pads with something thicker. the sonys get uncomfortable for me if worn long as the ear touches the plastic inside all the time.
everyone's raving about the beyerdynamic dt-250 ear pads for the sony mdr-7506 and mdr-v6. i thought about ordering those, but i don't think i'd like velour much and then i thought about getting the pads from my sennheiser hd280pro cans, which are badly cracked and would probably snap soon.
so i just took the pads from the senns and put them on the sonys. really easy and i can say that they're much more comfortable. i didn't notice any change in how they sound, but i didn't do a before/after comparison with them though as i just swapped the ear pads right after getting the idea.
i did measure the depth of the pads though (from the point where my ear was touching the plastic inside the headphone to where the pad ends). before it was 1,5 cm, now it's 2,1 cm. 0,6 cm doesn't sound like much, but it sure as hell is more comfortable!
i don't have big ears or anything though, but they aren't small either.
also the sennheiser pads are a bit larger, so my ear fits in there better which feels nicer and i would think it would improve the isolation of outside noise.
so all in all i'd say that it seems like it was definitely worth it!
i just should have cleaned the pads before though as they're quite dirty.
now my senns are useless though as i don't think the sony pads would fit there easily as they're slightly smaller, but as they were cracked so badly i don't think it's a big loss anyway.

you have big ears? my ears don't touch any plastic. i find the 7506 extremely comfortable. but yeah, changing the pads i don't think would really make any difference to the sound/isolation for the most part. they're mainly made for comfort, so if you didn't like them, you did the right thing!

actually my ears aren't that big. pretty normal all in all i'd say.
3,6 x 6,2 cm and the farthest the come from my head is 2,2 cm. maybe they're big then, but i also have a big head though.
anyway, i've read of several people who have complained about the shallow pads on the mdr-7506/mdr-v6.
works great for me now, but wouldn't work for someone with huge ears though.
also my ears touching the plastic didn't bother my until i had used the cans for a month or so every day for hours, but after that it started to annoy me even though it didn't really feel uncomfortable.

there is a great mod out there for headphones that puts a limiter on it so you don't damage your ears
