Well, once or twice, one of my records got a scratch that made the needle jump, but my friend was able to sort it out with a magnifying glass and a cutting blade. The track doesnt jump anymore, there's just a slight pop.
what u do is place the needle a bit before where its scratched and with ur finger spin the record really fast and let it run thru the messed up part...what happens is the needle gets hot and "burns thru"...it works well if u havent totally hacked ur vinyl

if i have a 2 inch scratch across a record, that means i have to do it for all those 2 inches?

Dont' listen to these guys I know what to do.
1. Place needle past said scratch. Doesn't matter how long the scratch is.
2. Apply pressure to the needle
3. Run it BACKWARD through the skip as many times as needed.
4. Voila, no more skip.
