You're OK. I'm going to make an effort to make a comprehensive english version, because translators usually only provides a far version from the original, and its hard to reporoduce literary style when you write far from journalistic language, which is my case. So, same way I write two reviews on Paul oakenfold straigh into english, thinking in english, DJ Essay in english it will not be just a traslation of my original ideas, but a new rewriting, which will try to enrich what I wrote into spanish. Thanks for comments, and I hope every contribution would enrich my job. Every contributor, as small as can it be, it will be mention in my book, so don't be shy, that I will thank in advance every opinion, design or comment.

Don't waste your time, just take a look at this extract I translated:
...This fusion of Dionysus and Apollo happens, without further ado, in rave parties (sic) with the amazing excercise of dee-jays, whose labour behind the decks has little or nothing to do with what they used to do during the last two decades of the 20th century, which was to simply mix one record after the other to liven up parties. These new dee-jays are in the whole extension of the word, artists and priests in front of whom hundreds and even thousands of party-goers gather, hoping to fuse in an orgy of sounds, rhythms, timbres, melodies, and dances...
Worst part is, this is all serious to this guy. This is written in the way of an article for a small city paper or magazine, meant to "educate" and "attract" people to the scene. This guy actually believes all this crap about DJs being priests of Nietzschean philosophy.

Oh, and by the way...this "Dionisos" guy you mention so much is actually called "Dionisio" in spanish. Something I'm sure you'd know if you had the slightest knowledge of Greek mythology.

Re: HQ Photos (Oakenfold, Sasha, Digweed et al.) for a book on DJ culture & Nightlife
| quote: | Originally posted by jmrecillas
Hi, everybody:
I know this maybe is a strange request, because its not really concerning with live sets or mp3, but with photographic material for a book that I have written some time ago, and it seems to be that finnally its gonna see the light. The book it was written in spanish, because I'm from Mexico and its gonna be published in my country. Its a book about DJs and dance culture, and it calls Dionysus in the Dancefloor, and is a philosophycal, sociological and mythical reflection on DJ culture and symbols behind dance music, but speciallly in what is it about the art or craftmanship of blend one tune after another, this is the DJ craftmantship. I probably make a bilingual edition, in order to get more readers, and change opinions about what is this whole world. So, I'm asking for HQ photos from DJs mixing and DJing as Paul Oakenfold, Matt Darey, John Digweed, Sasha, Satoshi Tomiie, Dave Seaman, Deep Dish, et al., but also from people in dancefloor. I need really good photos, not only in HQ, but that reflect the spirit and ambient from clubs and places as Gatecrasher, Space in Ibiza, etc. I promised that selected photos or photographers will receive not only their respective credit for their photos, but also two samples of the printed book, once this has been published.
So, I give thanks in advance for those who want to cooperate with this project.
If you wanna see an early version of this Essay, you will find in my blog at http://jmrecillas.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html and it is divided in the following parts:
lunes, marzo 06, 2006
Disolución y comunión: el nuevo dionisismo
martes, marzo 07, 2006
viernes, marzo 10, 2006
Vivencia absoluta del dionisismo y la actualidad
Sorry to mention that the Essay was written in spanish, so if you don't read spanish you probably find hard to get into ideas exposed there, but maybe if you use Google translator you can have a comprehensive english version that allows you to get a close approach to my ideas concernig this subject. If you need more information about this project, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks in advance!! |
suerte!

Can I laught a little?
OK!
What an arbitrary guy you are. I'm sure if you try a little harder, you probably destroy my whole Essay on DJ and Night culture. But that's all what you can do: destroy. You cannot create a shit, even if you are in a toilet.
You don't want to distract from your very important things? Don't read my posts when you see my name. So learn it very well, to avoid me, if thats what you want. You don't have arguments to talk with nobody. And by the way, in spanish there is Dioniso, Dionisio, Dionicio, and Dionisos (deberías saberlo porque eres guatemalteco, o por lo menos vives allá, así que por lo visto tu español también es bastante lamentable). And by the way, that Dionisos that I mention is not a guy, as you mention; he is the Greek god of theatre, dance, wine and Holy posession (read Plato, please, if your brain give for that). You don't know that also, right? I have already noticed.
So, don't patronize me or correct me about nothing, because you don't have the right. So, as you see, you don't even know that exists several ways for write that Greek name that you consult, most probably, on Wikipedia (so, don't speak to me about Greek mythology too). I repeat, you don't have the right to correct me aboutn nothing.
I have found in this very same forum many people better that you, people more generous that you can ever know or think. And when I speak of priests and so on, its about symbolic sense of the word, not in the moronic sense you use. But I'm sure that you don't know absolute nothing about symbolic lyfe, as probably you don't know about nothing. Thats only shows, I repeat, your lame arguments and your absoute lack of reason. Please, don't use the lame reductio ad absurdum formula to try to make your point, because you don't have a point in the first place.
I can only say this to you: if you think that you can say something more intelligent and brilliant about DJs, just do it, and if you are able to say something that its worth, something away from common place, probably, probably I will acknowledge and probably will mentioned in my work. But I don't think you can do it. Don't act like those little tyrants that for more than a century has reigned in our countries, Mexico included, like Pinochet, Ydígoras, Somoza and many others. Keep that tyrant for your self. Because, with all respect, you are who are living in a small city and read small newspapers. And its so obvious that you don't know nothing about hermeneutics and symbolic life on social life. How can I expect that you understand an hermeneutical proposition on DJ craftmanship and symbolic night clubbing life? Thats would be expect too much from someone with your vanity. O sea, con tus ínfulas de gran señor.
Rub-a-dub.

Easy there William Wallace...don't flatter yourself, nobody's trying to destroy you or your essay.

You've REALLY got to get your facts straight before lecturing people. I made a mistake and slipped an extra "i" in there, I meant "Dioniso". While all the names you mentioned exist, the only one that refers to the Greek deity is in fact "Dioniso" (in Spanish) The other ones are what are known as theophorical names, which are names that are derived from the name of a deity. Take "Dionysus" for example, which has spawned names like "Dionysius", and more commonly used names in our times like the male "Dennis" and the female "Denise". But don't listen to me, I "don't have the right to correct you".

So you made friends on the internet, what a touching story.
Sorry if you didn't mean it that way, I only figured since you keep referring to DJs as "priests" 238,796 in your essay it must be something important to you.
Anyway, don't give me that "it's only symbolic" bullshit. Statements like "To continue with my previous reflections, my zero readers, we are now entering the practical aspect of the topic discussed earlier. Surely, most of you don not know the power of Dyonisos (sic) and his manifestations. Cheers to those of you who already know something about him, and even more-so to those of you who have already experienced his presence" clearly state otherwise.
And now that you mention "Lyfe", I'm even more convinced. Oh, and using big-words don't make you smarter.

I've never claimed that I can write or say anything more "intelligent and brilliant about DJs". I'd rather say or write something "intelligent and brilliant" about things that are much more worthwhile in life, than people who spin and mix records at parties.
And don't worry, I don't have the slightest shred of interest in being mentioned in your "work".

I didn't know expressing views and opinions was being a "tyrant". I must have missed that memo.
And please go back and read my post again, maybe by the 5th or 6th time you will comprehend what I meant about the newspapers and magazines.

Easy there Aristotle, a text cannot be hermeneutical per se. Like I said earlier, get your facts straight before attempting to lecture people. Hermeneutics is a method of interpretation, not writing. You cannot write a "hermeneutical proposition". You apply hermeneutics to interpret such proposition.
And finally, I'll leave you with a little something to reflect on:
You can apply hermeneutics to interpret it if you want to
