automation

just a quick question & it might have an easy answer...

i use fl studio 7.

i'd like to automate the cut of my pro-53 (vst) softsynth in the program, but when i left click the pot, nothing comes up (whereas if i had any fruity synth open, it would've given me the option to automate that parameter).

so... how do i automate non-fruity loops things in fruity loops? what's the trick?

thanks,
will

Hmm, I don't think you can. You would have to use an effect through the mixer to get any automation.

Actually i think you can record it just by moving the knob while your live. Let me try it real quick.

Ninja: Yup, you can do that while its recording just move the knob. Make sure your on an empty pattern though. Then just double click the the pattern in the playlist and fine tune it.

It is certaintly possible, here is how. move the cutoff filters knob with the mouse. than in the left hand corner of the pro-53 window click on the thing that says plug in options. than go to last tweaked parameter than create automation clip. This works for all vsts in fl studio and any knobs or sliders on them. HF
Ps: if you have any fl studio related questions don't be afraid to pm me.

Edit: i see someone beat me to it.

To automate a VST signal processor (i.e. compressor, EQ, reverb whatever) you add it to the relevant mixer channel. Then you click the little downward pointing arrow next to that slot in the mixer window and scroll down to 'browse parameters'. Click that.

This will open up a list all the signal processor's variables in the browser window on the left of the screen.

Select the variable you want and right click it. This will open an envelope where you can draw in any waveshape you want or choose from a selection of preset linear/non linear waveshapes.

If I remember correctly you can do the same for VST synths. Its hella easy.

You could also make automation clips as stated above. Theres loads of different ways of doing it.

You could simply map the variables you want to your midi controller via MIDI cc and then just press record and play. A metronome will count you in and all the automation you do by hand will get recorded as an automation clip.

Use the above method if you have no midi control surface. Use the automation clips and cc maps if you have a control surface and want to do everything hands on.
