Question Super-high Sampling Rates like 64 Khz, 88.2 Khz, 96 Khz, 192 Khz: WHY???

I notice that Sampling rate are getting higher and higher on Pro and Consumer Audio/Video gear and I'd like to know why are they getting higher if everything above the 48 Khz Sampling Rate cannot be heard by the human listener? It's pretty pointless if you ask me! Can anyone on here hear frequencies above 24 Khz?

well, if you want to do production work, you want to keep as high quality as possible, since you can apply filters in a more 'correct' way if you signal is more detailed..

make sense?

How can you tell how detailed it is if you can't hear it? What kind of filters are you speaking about?
