Speaker Placement

Hey all,

Odd question.. I currently have my monitor speakers about 1.5-2feet in front of me and about 2 feet to the left and right of my head.
This is not an ideal placement and need to move them. However my room setup means that the only viable place to have them is behind me while I work. Has anyone tried this or are there issues with mixing having the monitors behind you?

I guess while doing final mixdowns it would be easy enough to turn around and be facing the speakers again.. it's just an annoying limitation of the small space i'm in.

if that was the alternative, i'd stick with the current setup until you get more space. My monitors sit pretty much in the same position as yours (close to my head, about 2 feet) and it works out just fine for me.

Trust me , you dont' wanna spin around everytime you want to hear a mixdown ... quick way to get dizzy.

the other problem with the current placement is that the speakers are about 5 inches in front of a wall.. and i cant get them any more forward.. unless i go for having the behind me as mentioned.. then there would be able 10 inches and auralex tiles on that side of the room... I suppose the only real option is to try it and see..

Hi there,

I have created an image which displays the ideal position ou of your monitors. Keep in mind that the height of your monitors is at the same heights as your ears.
