The best percussion samples. What collection do you use?

I know that many producers use Stylus RMX for percussion and sometimes Venguance samples. Is it everything you need?

I don't like loops. I want to create my groove rhythm for the very beginning. Do you?

i use vengeance samples or this pack of live drum sounds i got off the internet. vengeance is very good for techno drums, as there are a lot of random percussion-fx type sounds.

I also use the Vengeance samples (Club Vols. I & II, Minimal House), but I usually just use the single shots to create Battery 3 kits and program/process my drum patterns using my sequencer.

I also use Stylus RMX and it is excellent for percussion loops. Because the loops are in MIDI format, you can edit them to your desires, and the Chaos Designer is very cool for mangling loops. The included library is great and HUGE, but some of the Ilio SAGE expanders are also great for electronica.

Many people will tell you to avoid the Vengeance loops because they're over-used and recognizable, so a very cool option is to use Propellerhead's Recycle to chop up the loops (or any other loops) and port the REX files in to Stylus RMX so you can mangle them as described above.

I use a collection of one-shots that's been piling up for about 6-7 years now. They've been gathered from all over the place and I can't remember where any of them come from. I've got everything from 808/909 samples, accoustic drum, ethnic percussions, chromatics, and completely electronic sounds. All I'm really lacking right now is some good accoustic jazz/rock style snares.

fixed!

yeah, i am a complete guru fanboy, but i recommend everyone looks into it. battery was always awkward for me (midi clips, ugh). i find it a lot nicer to use a step sequencer like guru. it has slicing tools and effects in it etc. and runs as a VST. you can use it the same way as you would use battery too, but that sort of detracts from the point haha.

I too use Vengeance samples, various sample libs that I gathered over the years and also record my own percussion which works great if you add a little (or much) FX to them...

I usually make my percussions in Native Instruments FM8. Using Frequency modulation is a great way to make percussive sounds through the use of modulators with frequencies that are non harmonic.

You can make kicks, snares, hi hats, and anything thats percussive, you just need to have a bit of knowledge in programming, because frequency modulation isn't so easy, but also not hard.

If I get lazy I'll just use Vengeance samples, but I find it more challenging and enjoyable to program my own percussion.
