Yet another thread by me!! I'm really anxious to get up and running with Cubase and I think I've worked most stuff out now except for struggling with side chaining (which I guess means routing as a whole).
I've done a bit of research. I know I need a vst that supports side chaining so I've downloaded a copy of TC Works Native Bundle (no longer available so had to do some searching).
This should get you away and produces good results.
Just put one instance on your kick track and another on your bass track.
Now open up instance from bass track, click bypass and click on a. Make sure ducking is activated. Adjust attack, release and thresh to suit.

i would recomend db audiowares sidechain compressor have a look on there website they have video demos and its really easy to use after about 2 hours of experimenting with all the controlls it sorted out all my sidechaining needs and i also use cubase
