Well now would be the perfect time for Kraig and Azim of Twisted to redeem themselves in the Vancouver community and go book Menno for Feb.22 as he will be playing in San Francisco Feb.23. I'm sure his agent would be willing to work out a deal seeing as how he will be in Calgary a few days before.

Sorry, but I fail to see why Twisted needs to 'redeem' itself. We've continually thrown quality events and as far as the Maritime events go, we have definitely raised the bar for production. We've taken all the feedback from the Trance community and while some DJs we just can't get due to conflicting schedules, we try our hardest to bring quality lineups to Vancouver that reflect the tastes of our audience - hence names like Richard Durand and Jennifer Rene.

We DO look at your suggestions and listen to/read the feedback you guys give us. Should you have a headliner in mind who you believe will pull a large paying crowd then I would love to bring them. You can always email me.

Cheers,

Alje

Well Alje congratulations on being the first person from Twisted to ever respond back to a issue a fellow customer has had with the company. I already took the issue at hand to the fellow loyal TA audience that comes to your events. I created a poll on the subject at hand. We'll see if I'm not alone in this. First and foremost I recognize your running a business and in it for profit but the lines of communication need to be improved between customers and staff. There have been a few instances where the customers were left asking questions and never got a response. Hopefully, Vancouver can see the likes of Menno and others in a CLUB setting. Lately it seems as if Vancouver has fallen off the map, you got cities like Edmonton getting Marcel Woods, Marcus Schossow (back to back nights), G&D 5hr set!, Marco V, and Johan Gielen and they are all in a club. It would be nice to see Twisted go back to bringing talent into the night club setting again and not at the Maritime Labour Centre.

I'll keep my responses in this thread just so as to keep things succinct. You have to understand that throwing Trance club shows in Vancouver is very risky. As you probably know its a whole other ball game when compared to the more prevalent top 40 and hiphop nights.

Vancouver clubs WANT us to bring big names of any genre, even Trance! But they also want them to be as profitable as their existing top 40/hip hop nights. Its just not viable. We had Ferry Corsten here last summer and it wasn't even sold out. From a business standpoint, why would we want to take a big risk bringing a Trance DJ to a club and POSSIBLY break even when we can bring the same artist to a rave and MAKE MONEY. Admittedly, there are Trance acts that we DO turn a profit with at Vancouver clubs. Armin, Ferry, and PvD usually do well for us. Ferry has Markus, B&J, and ATB and he has done well with them as well. But just look at these acts I've named. They're either top 20 DJs or have been producing commercial successes for the last DECADE.

The same cannot be said for some of the other DJs you've pointed to. So, yes, we play it safe and bring them to a rave because at least then we know we can make some money and not risk our reputation with a Vancouver club by throwing a less than sold out show and having them be upset because they could've pulled in more revenue with a non-electronica event.

The DJs that Twisted or any other promotional company in Vancouver bring to clubs are very calculated choices. We COULD bring Menno to a club and we'd get what? 50 diehard TA types and some casual clubbers? And no disrespect to Menno as I'm a big fan of his work and I had the chance to see him here when Danny Taylor flew him in. This is more a sign of the scene and lack of people motivated to come out and support the event. I'm not talking about TAs here specifically, but I'm talking about crowds in general. Bringing Menno here for a small following of TAs isn't just bad business, it's embarrassing to Twisted because there aren't enought people to pack the club for an artist.

When Union was valiantly throwing events regularly at Plush for a few months with fairly big names, ie Signum, A&B, GTR, F&P, I can't recall there ever being more than 100 to 150 people there for any of those shows. Maybe that number is a little skewed, I didn't do a headcount.

Solid tried the same thing there with Kan Cold, Dumonde, and others.

It would have been almost impossible to break even and not worth it in the long run for the promoter or especially the club when they can turn around and offer the night to a hiphop/top 40 promoter.

We at Twisted tried the same thing with acts like Sander Van Doorn and Scot Project at clubs. We broke even, maybe made a little money, but not nearly enough to justify continuing to throw shows with that caliber of artist.

If Vancouver has taught me one thing, it's that the majority of people here who like Trance (not the die-hard TAs who, let's face it, are a minority group) only recognize and actively support the big names - the ones who've had commercial success or reside in the top 20.

Please understand, we'd like for this attitude to change. But, for now, this is the reality we have to live in. What it comes down to is support. If there were 200 TAs ready and willing to come out to a Vancouver club for these DJs you've mentioned then of course I would book them for a club, I'd be stupid not to. But there aren't, are there?

How many TAs are there in Vancouver that regularly come out to Trance club shows (other than Armin/Ferry/PvD)?

-Alje

Menno is not booked for Edmonton, he was just here in October for Scream, it would be over-exposure to bring him here so soon again
