Review: Tom Stephan (Superchumbo) at Mirror Ballroom, Circa

I got chumbo mundo'ed last night.

Probably one of the best party DJs this world has to offer. Absolutely destroyed Mirror Ballroom last night with filthy tribal, electro and techno.

Down to earth guy, very talkative and interactive - he was even taking his own pics of the crowd while spinning.

Lived up to every expectation I had and exceeded them 10 fold. Very consistent DJ and his mixing skills are unbelievable. He can mix from genre to genre like its taking candy from a baby and this is what puts him up and over the top of most DJs I've seen.

The volume was a tad too loud in there but still bareable....overall a musically blissful night filled with great music, great venue and great people.

8.5/10 night most definately - can't wait to see him again!!!

lol you idiot, you should've came.

Awesome night, 14$ for redbull vodka so I was sober after a couple of those lol. Great DJ and fun times! The DJ in the main room from 10-12 SUCKED whoever it is... I was watching him for a 4-5 tracks and couldn't properly beat match a single track.

sick sick sick sick SICK night! Only got there around 1:30, but I was totally wowed. Last time I saw him was at the Palais de Congres in Montreal, and I thought it was shitty at best. Big room was definitely the wrong venue: with all the echoes around, it was hard to make anything of his sound. The mirror ballroom was a totally different experience, tho. His pace is incredible, and he could tweak the energy in the room as if it were just another control on the mixer.

Question: ID on the track he played before Shinedoe-Phunk, at around 4am? It had a repeating 7-note vibraphone-synth motif, sort of reminiscent of Robin S - Show Me Love. Anyone?

Good times.

My second time at Circa for a Randomland night and I have to say the crowd and attitude in the ballroom is amazing. Great crowd, open minded, accepting, there to have fun. Hopefully they start to bring in some good DJ's on a more regluarly (not happy seeing the Acquaviva is in the main room in a couple weeks).

Good seeing so many friends out - very unexpected.

Tom Stephan was great. I love his style and he had me moving and smiling from the moment he started as 12:45. Really loved the last hour or so of his set but I took off during his last song to avoid coat check stupidity. Hopefully it isn't another year before Stephan is back.

Only complaint was getting my coat at the end. Standing there with about 4 other people with our tickets while one bouncer looks for some drunk guys coat who had lost his ticket. All this while the 4 girls just sat around cleaning and doing whatever instead of getting our coats. I actually had to yell over to the bouncer to suggest he get the coats of the people who had their tickets instead of trying to find a "black coat" among a couple hundred coats. Why is it that Guvernment seems to be the only club in this city which has coat check down to a science.

I'm awful at this but I do know this was played late in his set when as Slingshot put it "he got gay".

Turn Me Out - Kathy Brown - but I could be way off here

I just remembered that he played a great remix of the classic Cajmere - Perculator. Tune of the night for me.
