Party Hat The District of Texas 22nd

Texas 22nd is one of the many congressional districts of the House of Representatives, which are going for election. Texas District 22 of the United States House of Representatives is the congressional district that covers a south-central portion of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area. It includes the cities of Rosenberg and La Marque as well as portions of Missouri City and Pearland, in Fort Bend, Harris, Galveston, and Brazoria counties. 52 percent of poll respondents identified themselves as Republicans, 32 percent as Democrats and 16 percent as independent.

Texas 22nd takes in several wealthy and conservative suburbs south of Houston, including Sugar Land, Pasadena, Pearland, and the Clear Lake area of Houston. Texas 22nd Congressional District also includes the NASA Johnson Space Center and Ellington Field. The candidates standing for election in this district include known names like former Sugar Land mayor Dean Hrbacek , former Pasadena mayor John Manlove, former John Cornyn Chief of Staff Pete Olson, Family District Judge Jim Squier, State Representative Bob Talton, and NASA contractor Ryan Rowley. Dean Hrbacek is a former Councilman and Mayor of Sugar Land, a business attorney, board certified in tax law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and a Certified Public Accountant.

This district saw the passing of power to the hands of Democrats in the previous election, after a republican rule of 20 years. The 22nd had long been considered a solidly Republican district, with a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R+15. A Democratic presidential candidate had not carried the district since Lyndon B. Johnson defeated Barry Goldwater in the 1964 election. This constituency is known to have played a major role in voting George W. Bush over John Kerry by a 2 to 1 (66%-33%) margin, more than any other district that fell to the Democrats in 2006. The district is dominated by Houston's heavily Republican western and southern suburbs, stretching from Sugar Land and Missouri City in the west and traveling eastward to portions of Pearland and Pasadena, all the way to the NASA Johnson Space Center, Clear Lake City, and Ellington Field. A recent poll indicates that 52 percent of district residents are Republicans

Oh, I thought this was going to be about how Ron Paul is poised to lose his Congressional primary to a pro-war Republican on March 4.
