Hershey Mints Pulled Over Street Drug Resemblance
Production Stopped On Ice Breakers Pacs

HERSHEY, Pa. -- The Hershey Company is halting production of Ice Breakers Pacs -- mints that critics said looked too much like illegal street drugs.

Hershey chief executive David West disclosed the decision Thursday during a conference call about the company's newly released fourth-quarter earnings report.

West said the nation's largest candymaker is sensitive to concerns expressed by law-enforcement and community leaders about the mints' resemblance to certain illicit drugs.

Ice Breakers Pacs -- nickel-sized dissolvable pouches with a powdered sweetener inside -- were introduced on a limited basis late last year.

West said the mints that are currently on store shelves should be sold out early this year and no more are being made.
