jennifer rene, (aka.: female van buuren ,) eh? now, i must admit that from what i've heard about her on t.a. & t.nu, & more importantly, heard from her, (in her sets,) she's a newbie @ the d.j'ing thing. =/ (no. not "n00b". newbie; for she just started in the middle of '07.) but hell, i think that the lyrics she wrote/her voice on Jose Amnesia - Wouldn't Change A Thing & Jonas Steur - Fall To Pieces, (1 of my favourite songs from this past summer,) are pretty damn decent! so, ehh...whatever, i guess.
(...but i'm tellin' you right now that i ever have to hear Louder again, i'm going to WRECK. o__O & Invincible ... errr ... something's wrong w/ that track; i can't quite put my finger on it, though. but it sounds off, to me. =S)
anyway. a set of hers from late may/early june '07:

Like or not, the 'Armin' sound is popular, and a lot of DJs are fans as well, so it's easy to fall into a likeness or emulation. She's pretty new at DJing, give her time to develop her own style and sound, if that ever happens.
On a related note, I remember having a chat with Dom of Filo & Peri about this. When they first came here, many people in Vancouver were not impressed with them because they DIDN'T play an armin-like set. (They actually played a set a lot like what I was playing at the time, so it was a treat for me). Regardless, any DJ could emulate another, track for track even, there's so much room still for personal variation, bpm, mixing style, if they're a filter/fx or a x-fade dj, the way they handle EQs on the mixes, timing of transitions, etc etc.
And no, I don't think any of the above posts were meant about Jennifer in a negative way. I'm just throwing in my thoughts and two cents, and hope that all who go put aside any of this 'armin-like'ness and just enjoy the show for what it is.

Hi all,
As many of you have by now heard, Jennifer Rene was recently in a fairly serious car accident. While the injuries she has sustained are not life threatening and she is expected to make a full recovery, the length of her rehabilitation will take the next month, meaning that she will be unable to perform at Pink this February 16th, 2008. Consequently, Allya has been searching for a suitable substitution at short notice and, thankfully, good friend and talented performer Elsa has come to our rescue – read on!

ELSA HILL, USA - Armada, A State of Trance / www.elsahill.com / www.myspace.com/elsahill
With the ability to touch the crowd with her spectacular vocals and feminine energy, Elsa Hill is one of the leading up and coming female Progressive Trance DJ's. It’s easy to see how her catchy melodies and lush vocals stand out from the rest in her tracks such as “Close Your Eyes” with Robert Nickson, and “No Need to Come Back” with Leon Bolier. Both tracks are signed to Armin Van Buuren’s A State of Trance label and have been featured on countless compilations including the highly respected "A State of Trance 2006" but it doesn’t end there!
In the past four years, Elsa Hill has DJ’d throughout the United States and she recently returned from a three week tour traveling to South Korea and all throughout China. She has received much acclaim for her live performances and is excited for her upcoming shows. Receiving massive support for her sets on DI.fm and live performances on the dance floor, she is becoming one of the best up and coming female Trance DJs and performers in the United States. Not only is Elsa gifted as a singer and DJ, but she is also a talented producer. She is very excited to announce that her new solo production has been signed to Enhanced Recordings. Keep an eye out for this rising star as she makes her debut appearance in Vancouver!
