Thank you Tranceaddicts, & Dj TAJ
Over the last couple of years, I have had a blast with playing for you all. It’s been a real dream of mine to rock the decks at 1015, just like my favorite Djs have done countless times throughout the years I attended. You have come to my sets and I want to say thank you all for supporting me. Sometimes I meet people in the club who say they have read my post on TA, or heard about me from someone, or seen me at the club.
I remember asking past Djs at the club for many years to play alongside them, handing Demos out, Giving out mixes… Every bedroom Dj has to get their start somewhere. Sometimes people wonder how I got my start at the club. Hard to believe, but you all should know that I never gave Taj a Demo. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t let him down. After all, I’ve never had anyone have faith like that in me like that before. For me, it’s always been, Dj to play. Not about the money or anything, but that I wanted to showcase how I felt somehow. This is what I aim to do each month. The money is just a added bonus.
I mustered enough guts to ask Taj to play for my birthday in 05. I remember being behind the decks the first time that summer, I had this constant smile on my face. This was my chance to prove to San Francisco what I was made of…. 6 months later, after continually playing the club once a month, Taj gave me my residency at the club.
You can’t go anywhere else in the city to brush elbows with Big Djs like Taj allows us to do. It’s not the club that allows you to be in that mainroom Dj booth. Not me. We should all be so lucky to be meeting talent abroad like we are able to. I remember hoping someday I would open for Above & Beyond, Ronski Speed, Thrillseekers, amongst countless others. The last few years it’s been a real challenge, at the same time being real fun. There also isn’t a real place in San Francisco that consistently provides Trance, House and a variety on Saturdays. One reason I still continue to come to 1015.
I wouldn’t have made it or been able to play if it weren’t for Taj having confidence in me, allowing me my shot. Taj really helped discover me, and uncover my talents. Providing coaching, and mentoring through my journey as a Dj. Allowing me to not only observe, but watch other Djs in the booth. I can honestly say I'm working with someone who really knows EDM.
After being a club patron for many years, I used to come to 1015 on Nikita and Release nights, back when Spundae was in the house. I’ve seen 1015 Folsom go up and down over the years. But through it all, Taj has been there making things happen. I think we all should say thank you to the man who gives us talent, and a chance to prove ourselves as Djs.
I don’t know many people out there that has a passion for Electronic Dance music like Taj. Quite honestly, I never thought that I would see Saturday nights blossom as they have over the last couple of years. Local Love events showcasing Local Talent from the bay area and abroad, giving us all who aspire to be Djs the chance to be behind the decks. There really isn’t a club in San Francisco who does monthly events to showcase local talent. Even at the lovefest day parade event last year, our float also had a huge crowd. Showcasing local talent from SF once again, along side Infected Mushroom and Gareth Emery. I also was allowed to play on the float closing it. The greatest was seeing Taj out in front of the float as I played to close it out, pounding his fists in the air as I did for many years for him at the club and abroad.
I’ve never seen anyone who gives respect to Djs like he does. Last Saturday was a prime example of that respect by letting Menno De Jong close out the night. He often allows more time for headliners, which is very humble for someone to do. Most Djs I know would be an ass about their timeslot. But there is a certain quality that Taj has that many of us don’t have. Patience.
Looking back on everything, there’s really nothing that I can say to express my thank you, but that I'm still learning from the best in San Francisco. No kissass comments here, just a simple thank you for being the Dj you are. You continue to be someone I continually look up to in the industry, and a really good friend.
Thank you Taj.
Some of you may have negative things to say, so be it. Simple truth is if you work hard for something, you’re going to be rewarded for it one way or another. Saturday nights at 1015 even when there are other events going on in the city or abroad, always turn out to be great.
