Have you ever noticed this? Sometimes folks from this forum will use laughing smilies in places where there's no hint of funniness nor an attempt to joke at all. Often happens in other sections dedicated to music such as dj promotion, tracklists, etc. Examples:

Seriously, what the fuck. Why? Do these people think they are being funny in these random posts? Do they not notice the fucking icon is a small cartoon laughing? I've also noticed this tends to happen with people from eastern european countries, or people who have some trouble with the english language. Does this mean having trouble with english is correlated to having trouble interpreting universal wordless pictures?

Incidentally, I often do something similar which is to insert "lol" at the end of a sentence. Like this sentence, lol. It doesn't have much of a purpose, it's just an annoying habit to make it sound like I'm writing informally and/or like I'm not being completely serious about what I'm writing.

And yes, I thought this was important enough to write a lot about it and make a thread about it.

I don't know about the laughing ones but the misuses of smilies in general bug the shit out of me. I also noticed it's usually illiterate noobs who do that.

I remember stuff like:
