Whats a acceptable percentage to receive when someone remixes your work?

I would think label would get 50%, then 25/25 to original artist and remixer?

50/50, that's the standard as far as I know.

usually the remixer gets a fixed amount of money (not a percentage) for doing the remix.

after that the income from the sales of both original and remix are split between the label and the artist according to the contract.

Labels handle these things differently independent of eachother. I'd normally recommend to try and get 50/25/25 on a remix deal if it's digital. 50% of the sales income for the track you did is standard. I wouldn't take any less for a remix. Fixed price would be more interesting anyway, especially if they will not do 50/25/25, or sales are low. Unless you expect huge sales of course.

In case of a percentage remix deal:
50% for remixer
25% original artist
25% label

I'm just about to get a remix released in i-tunes, napster etc. The contract came the other day, and this is how it is split -


The record company will get 50% of the total revenue from digital downloads.

The remaining 50% shall be split between the artist and the remixer.
The remixer will get 50% of the Artists share, and the artist will get 50% of the remixers share.

I recently completed a rmx for someone who made it seem like it was for vinyl release. and now its completed they go and say it is pure digital. I had never heared of the label but checked it out before hand and vinyl releases on previous tracks checked out. so just before i sent the rmx to the guy i wanted to clarify it was for vinyl and have the label send me a rmx contract...

well now i decide if to keep the rmx for myself and play it in sets(out of principle), or to send it to him and let him use it for a shitty digital only release on a no name/no friendship label. I have learned one thing, and that is to have things in writing before wasting valuable time on working hard on a rmx for someone who you dont know from adam.

It has really really annoyed me how someone has the cheek to assume ill do the rmx under the assumption it will be released on vinyl, and then just expect me to hand it over for a substandard release.

I have, for $7 I think it was. That was for my first release. I just had an EP released, and I have 2 remixes that will be released on Bonzai. Will be interesting to see if I get any royalties from any of those. I'm not expecting much. I'm definitely not in this for the money.

For one of those remixes, I signed a contract that stated I would get 50% of any royalties paid to the original author of the song. This guy is a friend, so I didn't ask for any money up front. Not sure how it works with producers you don't know well. Could you really trust a stranger to tell the truth on how much money they've made off your remix? Remixes are just a good way to get your name out there, I don't expect much beyond that.
