Best place for a dj to find new songs ?

sometimes, I'll spend a day looking for songs on beatport, djdownload or ... and i don't find s#@$! then I listen to a dj set and there are so many cool songs in it that most of the time nobody even knows who the artist is.
how does this work ? any suggestions ?

crate digging. only way that I'd find new material, or else I'd be sticking with same group of producers

though listening to sets with tracklists posted is another good way (hence why I check out the dj promo forum and tracklist forum)

and friends. esp. dj friends recommendations

Every other bedroom/not famous (lol) dj is in the same boat as you. The reason why you hear these songs in sets and cant find them anywhere else is because they didnt get released, such as to beatport. The higher up djs get thier hands on these songs much earlier then everyone else does, unless you got some sort of hook ups. New releases get sent to them by the producers them selves or other djs...etc.

Unfortunetly people like yourself and me must wait till they see a release from a label.

Might want to add in that some songs do get ID'd by people but you still cant find them on beatport cuz they didnt get released yet.

I'm lucky (or unlucky) enough to wake up every day and sift through lots (sometimes over a gig's worth) of complete and utter garbage - But you find the occasional Gem - There's some days I think the people wading through beatport had it worse than I though.

My best advice would be tracklisted sets. If you're just starting out, take tunes that you love and figure out *why* you love them - What is it? Is it melody, progression, fast, slow, gritty, deep, hard, vintage, cutting edge.. Start to develop a taste and feel for what you're looking for sonically, figure out which artists and labels carry this trend, and expand from there. Kind of like a 'six degrees of Armin' kind of thing.

EG: I like the proggier vein, I also like my tunes a little techier lately. Therefore, I found Jaytech's 'Headcase'. It released on Anjunadeep however, so digging a little more brought me to more of his material on Red Seven Records and in turn, I found Matt Rowan to be equally sick.

I don't really follow tracklists at all, personally. I love to listen to what's new on BP and can always fill my cart with quality stuff that people haven't necessarily heard of. That said, I limit the amount I go on BP because I can easily spend $200 with an hour of looking for music.

Truly this is the only way to do it. Unless you want to be one of those guys that plays stuff from other djs charts and sets.
