Well that is part of the problem. From my understanding, there wasn't much of a case, and it could have been down to Mexican incompetence+corruption. Mexico was just happy letting her sit there and rot, until the government got involved.

It's funny because it actually took Paul Martin's involvement to trigger Harper to do anything. Until PM PM started to get interested and fight for Brenda, Harper washed his hands. Then all of a sudden, it became a big deal and the Fed got involved.

Looks like diplomacy failed in this case. But being convicted and having the world know your story *might* be better than sitting in a jail, in a foreign country without charge.

That is so heartbreaking. So sad.

She will commit suicide soon unfortunately. I listened to her on CBC Radio about 2 months ago when her friend happened to have her on the other line during the radio call. My heart goes out to her. Her trial was unfair, and took her in because they didn't get the big fish.

The Mexican justice system places the onus on the accused to prove his or her innocence -- rather than on the prosecution to prove the guilt of the accused.

i do understand her being upset for not having a trial.

but they can't prove that she didn't know she was invloved in fraud. just because her former boss said she wasn't involved. i mean, he is already serving his sentence, what difference does it make to him to lie.

the woman is in bad shape tho. i heard her on CBC and she is quite sad.
