hey how ya guys doin i just put win2k back on and i im getting all these crackles and shit on my mp3s i remember this used to happen before i think its a probelm with win2k and my sblive but does anyone know how to fix it? i cant remember im using my sb 16 atm though...

hmm...only thing i can think of (assuming drivers are ok)
...it to check the output settings
open winamp...but make sure NOT to play a song...ie. don't open via a playlist or mp3...just open the program winamp so u can access the settings without winamp trying to send anything to the soundcard
then press CTRL+P to get to preferences...and check the OUTPUT plugins...dunno what u do, but i use the directsound output rather than waveout...may as well check both
then goto CONFIGURE and check the DEVICE...it should be your soundcard...i had an old yamaha card before, then bought a turtlebeach...and winamp was looking for the yamaha, but i had to tell it to look for the turtlebeach.
there is some shit with creative not supporting amd correctly and some sblives will crackle with this combination...i dunno much about it, seeing i don't have sblive...but i'll do some checking up later and see if i can find anything
yeah dude am using a amd but its really weird doesnt seem to be too bad now maybe something with the 16 or the track i was playing could have been a dodgy rip thanx neway!

FINALLY!!!!! someone with the same problem!!!! ive had crackles, pops and skips ever since i went from windows 98 SE into Win2k, i thought it was my soundcard, its a shitty onboard one 3cm X 3cm, been used for ages so i thought it was just dying so i was gona buy a new one (Sound Blaster Auidgy), ill do fraggles stuff later, atleast i no its not my card tho! all i have is a CreativeAudioPCI, so its a shitty one anyway, might buy a decent one reguardless tho

I have a SB Live! and am experiencing problems - why should I get the Santa Cruz instead?
If you own a SBLive! and are experiencing the following symptoms:
Sound crackling
DMA issues
Sporadic system hangs
Data corruption
then you have a very good chance of alleviating these issues by changing your sound card to a Santa Cruz. The reasons for these issues are twofold: the crackling is the result of poorly designed drivers and the remaining symptoms are caused by a faulty ACPI firmware header on the Live!. With the exception of the crackling, the Live! 5.1 does not suffer from this problem and neither does the new Audigy. You should also be aware that Microsoft has included a hard-coded patch to compensate for Creative Labs faulty hardware in Windows XP and again with the potential exception of the crackling, all of the aforementioned Live! issues have been fixed.
Are these problems localized to only Via chipsets?
Unfortunately no. Users of a wide cross-section of motherboards with Ali V, Via and Intel i815 and i850 chipsets have experienced one or more of these issues.

thanx so much for the info fraggle i remember seeing that bit of info too actually when i was determined on getting it right before hehe il hunt around and hopefully find that patch it really gets me how though you fork out 100 bucks (aussie) for a live and then it doenst even fucking work with a good operating system or motherboard! Bah!

in the motherboard BIOS there is an option called "Delay on PCI something" I forgot... Go there and Disable that.
It should work. and if you`re using GeForce Video cards. change Memory Hole values to: "15 - 16M"
