Automator on Macs..

So, i've had my mac for a couple of months now and love it. Simplicity, efficiency, creativity. It's all there in abundance.

And then the other day i run into the Automator. I was looking for a mass picture resizing program and couldn't find one that i really liked online until i was pointed in the direction of this program. Which came with my mac in the first place.

Anyway after messing around with it for a little while i started to think.
Couldn't we automate some of the tasks we do every day for our Dj'ing.

I have tried anything yet but was wondering if you lads had any ideas or use it to do anything that other people might not have thought about.

For example, after downloading your song from beatport,Audiojelly, etc. You want to transfer that file and any other files that you have in that directory over to your external hard drive.

As i said i haven't had a go yet at doing this but i'm presuming you could quite easily put something together in automator that would copy/cut all the contents of your 'download' folder and paste it into another folder on your external hard drive.

Run it once a day or however many times you have to and hey presto. All your files are backed up.

I've seen it can do some stuff with Itunes as well. I'm wondering if after making some playlists in Itunes, you could copy the contents of those specific files to another location as well. For example if you use your itunes playlists for Serato.

Anyway, i'm waffling I was just wondering if you use it for anything regarding dj'ing.

Cheers,
nelly

Isn't that what Time Machine is for?

Yeah but its like, way cooler if you program your own script to do it.

All sarcasm aside, I love automator. I haven't tried anything you suggest yet but some cool ideas there... be sure to post up the scripts when you're done.

By teh way, OLD SCHOOL here... any mac users remember Hypercard and Apple Script? BOOYAH!!!!

LOL its so sad, some of my earliest memories are of Mac OS 4...

lol, i don't write my own scripts, i just drag and drop a bunch of pre made options into a window and it ties it all together for me.

Anyway, i'm aware time machine can back up specific folders.

I meant more along the lines of filtering out songs you like and don't like. Say you have a playlist in itunes, that playlist grows as you add songs to it obviously but instead of having to remember which songs you've copied across the automator and do it for you.

I dunno, it's a stupid example, but i just thought automator was a cool little application i had never used before.

that is all.
