my pioneer hdj's just broke!!

what's out there that you guys like? how about the new xones or denon's?

You're going to get at least one 'search before you post' response (if it hasn't been made already).

What's normally recommended are:
Sony MDR-v7506
Sennheiser HD-25

Sony MDR-v700's are popular among DJs, but I think the consensus is that the sound isn't as good as the two mentioned above. Another popular one is the Technics RPDH1200, although they are heavier than most.

By visual inspection, it seems like the XONE headphones are the same as the Denon, which is also the same as another headphone (ATH?).

Personally, I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DJX-1's which I like because of the way the earcups swivel. I can swivel one of the cups up with the band around my neck, or i can wear them properly on my head and swivel one earcup back. I believe the Technics RPDJ1200 had this type of swivel mechanism first. I should note though, that my DJX-1's are being repaired due to one of the swivel mechanisms breaking (covered under 2-year warranty).

If you're seriously looking for new headphones, you should provide some information such as budget, type of earcup (circum- or supra- aural), etc.

A pound sure beats a nickel (US$0.05), which is how the saying goes here across the pond.

The joints are notorious for being prone to breaking. Even DJ Woody (a fellow TA) had his break, but I think he got them replaced without incident. If you do search around he tells the story in another thread.

I don't really mind the whole 'search' things, as sometimes you won't get you exactly what you want, or you'll have to dig through a lengthy thread to find the relevant bits.

I haven't heard much about the XONE 53 or whatever they call it, but I'd think it's similar to the Denon one you found. I mean, apart from some differences in the casing (the branding on the sides of the earcups), the hinge and the overall design look the same. I think both (all three, if you count the third version which I can never seem to remember) have 53mm drivers as well. I know there are DJs that use them, as there were some photos from that recent music festival in Miami with at least one DJ using them, but I haven't really heard much on TA about them.

regardless of what ppl say/think those hdj-1000's are the sickest headphones i have used to date. sure it's personal opinion, but if you think about the sound they produce for a club atmosphere you know exactly why they are created.

on a side note. i jump/bobble my head/go wild all the time while i spin and have never had mine break. just gotta be careful when opening them up...duh it's thin plastic...lol no brainer there

Sennheiser HD-280s. For 80 bucks you can't go wrong. I have had mine for almost 4 years now. Sound quality has diminished a little but that didn't start until about a year ago and that was after I let my brother borrow them. He beat the shit out of them and a few parts broke off so who knows how they would be if they were cared for, but they are great. Use them for everything from listening, DJing, computer use, and travel.

I find the HD-280's to be really comfortable, too. Many people complain that their ears get sweaty after a few hours, but I don't really have that problem.

I opted for a different pair of headphones for DJing for a few reasons. First, the oval earcups makes it hard to do one-ear monitoring unless the headband is over your head or if you squish it really hard against your ear to get a good seal. Secondly, the bass was a bit light for my tastes for DJing, but great for normal listening. The last reason isn't really much of a reason, but the 280's look really weird when I wear them. My 280's were my first pair of headphones, and so far everything is still in pretty much original condition. It should be noted that one of the most common issues with the HD-280 is that the headband will start to crack over time, but that can be fixed with bits of superglue.

The only issue I've got with HD-280s is that they don't isolate well, so I still wonder how people can manage to DJ in a loud environment with these...
I use Technics DH1200s, probably the most worthwhile purchase I've made with regards to sound. They're durable, they isolate well, and the sound is nice and full.
