It goes until 7pm Sunrise, I am sure you'd be able to get there at some stage in that 2 hour time slot to show your support!@ :P BUT GOOD REASON!

I on the other hand am working from 1pm till 10:30pm :P So I can't make it! Let me know how it goes JB. Hope quite a few people get down there..

And guys if you go, don't forget to take off your shirts, it worked for the cabbies, not so well for the oldies, but aye give it a try!

Looks like people power prevailed - sorta.

From TheAge:

Melbourne's nightclubs have forced the State Government into a backdown on its plan to lock people out of venues after 2am, club owners have said.

With hundreds of people protesting at Parliament House this evening, Association of Liquor Licensees Melbourne (ALLM) vice-president Andrew Sumpter said Premier John Brumby had backed down on the plan announced this month in a bid to curb late-night violence in the inner city.

Mr Sumpter said the Government agreed some clubs could let people in after 2am, as long as they put extra security on the door.

Totally!

Continued from The Age...,

quote:
THE State Government has been forced into a back down on its contentious plan to ban patrons from entering inner-city venues after 2am, as a massive crowd vented its anger on the steps of Parliament House.

Almost 50 bars and nightclubs will be exempt for the trial lockouts due to be introduced on Tuesday, after they agreed at a mediation hearing with Liquor Licensing Victoria to increased security.

Association of Liquor Licensees Melbourne president Carlo Colosimo said many more of the 469 venues affected by the ban were likely to be excluded, with further mediation talks expected on Monday.

"We're angry we were never consulted over this proposal and we hope to sit down with the Government and liquor licensing next week in a bid to have this Band-Aid solution reversed," Mr Colosimo said.

Police estimated more than 3000 people marched from Treasury Gardens to Parliament last night to voice frustration over the Government's proposal to curb alcohol-fuelled violence. Greens candidate Adam Brandt told the noisy crowd that Melbourne's international reputation would be ruined by the proposal.

A spokeswoman for Liquor Licensing Victoria defended the plan. "No one can dispute the high level of alcohol-fuelled crime and violence occurring around licensed venues in inner Melbourne. The temporary lockout is one of number of measures directed at reducing this problem."

VicHealth chief executive Todd Harper called for cool heads last night and urged licensees to work with the Government.

The Government has responded to protesters' demands on two other occasions this month. It agreed to boost security for cab drivers and is indicating it will negotiate with traders on plans to extend clearway times in inner Melbourne.
