Generally speaking, music is tailored to work on both, and eq'd properly it will. If it only sounds good on one, it's not eq'd properly. And eq'ing for headphones of any kind, iPod or the V6's, isn't the same as doing it specifically for "an adequate audio system." Headphones should be used as as a reference, not a primary source.
Rule of thumb is you want music to sound good everywhere and not rely on the listener to have a nice audio system... especially if you know they are going to be listening on iPod headphones. If done correctly it will be fine on both.
I guess it's not that big a deal if you are talking about one or two cd's for friends. But if you are trying to build a following or get people interested in your music, it's worth spending the extra few minutes to get it right.
