Tex has needed a new home ever since I got him. I rescued him from the streets when he was a very sick puppy. I tried a few times back then, and never found him the right home because everyone said he would get too big. He grew up and just joined the family. He became adjusted to apt life, but just was too hyper. I would take him to my folks home in Lufkin and he would run around in their back yard for HOURS. My mom kept telling me every time that he needed a home with a back yard. I just couldn't let him go. But I would ask around a couple times every month if anyone was looking for a dog.
This Spring came around and Tex rediscovered his joy of chasing squirrels. I would let him off the leash and he would run around crazy, jumping up the tree trunks. I'd bring him back in after that, but he'd still want to go back outside. He sat in front of the window and stared out ALL DAY LONG. And he continues to do this. Just staring out the window all day, everyday. I bring him outside, but just not as much as he wants. He deserves a yard that I can't give.
Not only am I moving into another apartment that will just depress him, but they only allow 2 pets max. I'm getting apt with my bf and he has 2 cats. We are compromising on 1 dog and 1 cat. So I started seriously looking for a home for him 2 months ago.
Steve - I contacted a lab rescue a while back ago. I don't remember which it was, but they said he didn't have enough lab in him. I guess he has to look close to full blood. I dunno!
And I can't stand the thought of no-kill shelters such as Operation Kindness, or any shelter. It would send him into a scared panic.
Yeah, there are dog fighting rings looking for bait dogs in ANY classifieds. Or people looking for something to take their anger out on. Creeps that want to torture animals. Animal testers, ext. That's why it's always super important to put a serious adoption fee on your ad. It gets serious people looking for a pet.
Tex was on PetFinder a month ago without a listed adoption fee. I can't tell you how many creepy emails I got from people in the Midwest willing to pay shipping fees to get him there. And they didn't state, "hey, I'm interested in Tex as a dog for my family.".....The emails were like "I like your pet. I think your pet would like it here. I'm in Utah and will pay for shipping. How much is your pet?"
That crap creeped me out!
