Love Poundin' Sensation Review: Box of Kittens @ LazyDaze (Jamie Kidd and Rich Hope)

I would never create a review thread for an event that only 2 (maybe more??) TAs went to BUT I feel the need to hype up my favourite local (you dont hear his name mentioned on TA very often) and share my wonderful evening.

I was really hyped up to see Jamie Kidd today and was really hoping to get some friends to come so they could see why I adore him so much... only Mikey came with me, and everyone else deserves an 'epic fail sticker'

We arrived at LazyDaze just after six so we missed a lot of DJs, but I didnt care - I was there for one man only. When we got there it was the most awkward feeling ever - we didnt know anyone, the crowd was different from what we were use to and there were some pockets of sketch all around. We instantly decided we would finish our drinks and get the fuck out... THANK GOD IM A SLOW BEER DRINKER!

Jamie Kidd got on sometime after 6:30 and from the second the headphones landed on his head the music was puuuuurrrfect. We had some serious chair dancing going on. Shortly after we got up and started to bust some moves and everything was FANTASTIC. Could it get any better???? hahaha OF COURSE!

So now Jamie Kidd and Rich (I really have no idea what his name is but thats what Mikey said it was) were going back to back. Jamie with his tech/minimal/a little electroish/with some funk as well (lol) goodness and Rich with some seriously funky tunage. Honestly it was perfect for Mikey and I – one of my favourite genres vs his... we had a blast.

One minute it would be dark and dirty, and then all of a sudden it would be high energy and more uplifting funky goodness. OMG soooo good. I have never heard a set transition so smoothly into so many different directions. Also they both had a great energy level and were both having so much fun. Quote: “THIS IS SOOO MUCH FUN” – Rich guy.

Ohhhh and it was raining all around us. Outside dancing, feeling the rain mist your back... soooo nice.

And yes there were a couple of serious trainwrecks and not all mixes were flawless, but the track selection and transitions between different styles were mind blowing.

So I highly recommend you all attend some Box of Kittens events or see Jamie Kidd – he is playing a decent amount of gigs this summer <3

PS. Sorry if my review writing skills kinda suck and thanks for reading

Tara summed it up perfectly for me, but i'll write a review anyways.

so we got to Satori (I think this is what the place was called) and we grab some drinks and have a seat on the patio. There was sketch all around us but it that made it more "interesting".

As we were drinking our beer the music was getting better and better, so we decided to stay, GREAT GAME TIME DECISION MAKING SKILLS TARA !

Jamie Kidd and Richard come on, and it was fantastic ! As Tara said her favorite genre vs. mine. Dirty/techy/minimalistic tracks with great basslines and techno-like hi-hats one minute, then some seriously jazzy/funky/groovy tunes the next. the mixing wasn't perfect, but i seriously couldn't give a shit, the music was just too good, and my feet agreed as I just kept on moving.

The Funky house was fantastic for me, i couldn't have asked for more, it had everything i wanted, it was instrumental, there were vocals, it was jazzy, uplifiting, make you feel good, tunes !

GO SEE JAMIE KIDD AND RICHARD, THIS DUO IS FANTASTIC !

Sounds like my kinda gig.

Where was the roll-call lol?

I plead ignorance (not knowing about the event) and therefore remove my "epic fail" sticker.

Cheers.
