e-mu ESI 2000 hardware sampler Q's

getting my sampler sometime this week and i was wondering if anybody has any tips or experience w/ it...its already been expanded to 64mb of ram and im going to buy another 64mb. i found some off the net for $18

its got 4 stereo outputs but can be upgraded to 8 stereo outs w/ the turbo kit...hmmm...plus im thinkin bout installin an internal zip drive or external disk storage unit...wondering if it was a tough user install (?)

hit me back

my mate had 2 emu samplers, one time he had a external zip (need to have scsi fitted), and the latest one he used a scsi connection to his pc. This allows you to store and edit on the pc, then transfer them to the emu for playback.

This is a very good option and it allows many processing capabilites but it keeps the sample within the digital domain!

As for the outputs, it all depends what the sample sis going to be used for. If its everything or all the beats then you would want if possible, separate control over the individual sounds. e.g. kick, clap, hihats, cymbals etc

As you may rverb the clap but not the kick etc. You could wait to see if you need it? Although i believe another benefit is that the turbo board adds effects on the outputs, which is very helpful.

( i own ESI4000 turbo which is basically the same as esi2000)

The turbo card is definately good....I'd try to get the sampler second hand fully expandedtho, because that saves you lots of dough if you want to expand it yourself, while these things don't really tend to break. All those separate outs (8 + 2 for effects) + digital I/O + effects is quite handy (if you have enough free channels on your mixer ). As far as I know, ESI comes as standard fitted with SCSI, I also use it to edit samples on my PC and then send them to the sampler. Me, I've got 32 mb ram, and I've never had to load in a bank that used all this memory.

Anyways I love it and will never get rid of my baby!
