[REVIEW] Hernan Cattaneo @ Pacha, Independence Day

here goes nothing...

got there around 12-12:30ish, the opening DJ was holding it down, no doubt about it. Hernan was supposedly slated to start at 2:30 but I feel like he came on at least an hour before that.

I've only heard maybe 3-4 productions by him, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, all I knew was that he is ranked top 20 by DJ Mag and that i've heard good things. I can honestly say that this man knows how to keep the party bumpin, from start to when I left, this boy threw down big ones song after song. I couldn't ID shit cause I listen mostly to trance, but I loved every minute of it. Dank build ups, drops, everything was straight official, SON.

thank god I reserved tables, because the main floor was a sweat box. I was dead sober on the train ride home, I think I sweated out all the alcohol i drank. when I did venture out to the floor to dance, I didn't get pushed around and was usually able to find a spot to dance, but then again, I'm 6' 260, so people tend not to push me too much.

a large chunk of the floor was taken up by a large platform that girls were dancing on. sure they're nice to look at, but come on, I came for the music, yo. Tons of American flags were hanging all over the place, which was whatever.

I went upstairs to go outside for a smoke, and was bombarded with rap music... wtf?? every time i have been to pacha in the past that floor was open so you could look down at the crowd and the music was the DJ. Is that only for Made Events? or is that a new thing or what. I dunno. It was meh.

bouncers were surprisingly friendly, for once, which was nice.

I left around 4:45 and he was still going hard at it.

cclem AKA christian - great meeting you. i was really glad that you were able to make it up to the table without a problem and that we didn't drink all the alcohol before you got there...

cl005k - you are SSOOOO whipped it's not even funny. you better be in NY tomorrow or else I'm coming to Potomac in a doo-rag and knocking on your parents front door.

all in all, Siiiiiiick time. I'll definitely see him again when he comes around.

time now for sleep, so I can wake up, re=energize and go see AAARRRRMIIIIIIINNNN!!!!

Hernan is one of the most consistent DJ out there......doesn't matter if you listen to prog house or not......half of the shit he plays is hard to ID. Now who can you say the same about Armin? lol

edit: and you will never catch guys like Hernan busting out that gay ass "Jesus Pose" they are actually too busy programing, and doing shit on the fly instead of simply beat matching and praying to God they didn't trainwreck.

Hernan Cattaneo is hands down one of my favorite, most technically savy and entertaining DJs out there. His tech skills and mixing are unmatched, his version of the South American deeper, darker and sometimes even tribalish progressive house is unbeliveable and I don't like anything more then the style he plays, cross matching generes seamlessly.

This show was my second favorite set I've heard, although I left at around 5:15 and missed some, I'm sure he closed out with a bang.

Fantastic time w/ Rav, Kettle 1 and progressive heaven with the unmatched sound of Pacha.

Hernan played a great set, I was impressed. I uploaded 2 videos from the night if anyone is interested, will have another one up later. The track he played at 545am was pretty sick.

*In tears reading this

I really wish I could have gone down to NY for this one

I LOVE LOVE LOVE him.

Hopefully he makes a Toronto stop next time, otherwise I'll have to pop my NYC cherry.
