Looking to buy some high end headphones, recommendations

Hi all im looking to buy some really good headphones to produce for when cranking up the volume isnt appropriate...(i live with my family). Im ready to pay a couple hundreds dollars for some really good ones, so if any of you guys have recommendations post them and I will check some reviews, etc. I have my eye on technics dj1200 but thats about it.

Hey Mate,

the technics headphones are better than most headphones you see on the road but they are not high end. they are good headphones in the price area of 100€.

im also looking for new headphones as my technics dj1200a are very uncomfortable for home use.

i found the 10 best headphones by headphone.com very helpfull.

im probably going to buy the Sennheiser PX 100, they are getting good reviews all over the place.

noise canceling and volume of dj headphones is very good but that all comes with a big lack of comfort.

I have the AKG k271(closed back phones), they're alright but more suited for recording vocalists.

I recently got the AKG k701's(open back phones), these are amazing

Sony MDR7506 or 7509. They're the best headphones I can think of. I've tried many other pairs. Nothing comes close to their sound for me. You can ploy them, and they're rock-solid. The rest is a question of taste.

Look into a company called Grado Labs and their SR125's or SR225's or even their Sr80's. They are handmade from Italy and sound fucking amazing.

They fall into less than a 'couple hundred' bucks. (couple meaning 2)

These are great studio phones and once you hear them, you'll understand sound differently.

For regular DJ use: Sony MDpickanumber. They are all pretty sturdy and sound great for when djing out in a club.

hate to go against the grain, but i'd strongly recommend avoiding these.

1. they are all closed back. this is great for djing or recording, but a very unsuitable design for general monitoring. open or semi-open is much better.

2. technics only make djing headphones. the main goals are isolation and physical strength, not sound quality. therefore, they are not appropriate for monitoring.

i'm not up to date with what is out there at the moment, but akg 240/701 and grados always seemed to be popular.

Once in a while echosystem says something that is very useful. This is one of those moments.

i have the 7506 / v6 myself and i agree with echo, they aint good for monitoring imo, they make everything sound very warm/fat/bassy and nice, then when switching to monitors i hear my mix is muddy, cold, flat. but if u know about this problems u could ofcourse make a good mix with it. u can with anything if u know them good, its just alot of wasted work imo. theyr awesome for djeing tho

Yeah, it's exactly the same with the Sennheiser HD-280. I think most closed back phones suffer from this.

I prefer open back headphones.
AKG k240s. Enough said.

Another vote for the AKG K701 got em quite cheap at Thoman last year. Very clean and crisp sound. Really like em togehter with my AKG 271.

Here is a couple of nice review sites:
