I heard Ledger died before filming was done and Will Smith filled in for part of the movie. Is this true?

This is a sad comment and in really poor taste, that family lost a son, a father, and we lost an artist at the prime of his career.

Every actor in this movie was increadible, Oscar needs to broaden what they consider best picture, cuz I can't picture anyone not being moved by the powerful statement this movie makes. It felt more like an epic crime drama than a superhero movie. Very dark and tragic!
