The latest ban-a-thon

There is a movement to ban plastic bags in Toronto.

I say sure, why not? Next we should ban living as that is also bad for the environment.

Seriously whats the point of being an adult anymore? All it means is that mommy government takes over from mommy.

Looks like they didnt take lead based paints off the market fast enough for your sake.

Maybe they should have just left those on the shelves too?

while I've heard nothing about this 'ban', I think it's safe to assume that it's some sort of legislation to stop stores from using them. Force them to use some sort of a reusable alternative with a longer lifespan then a cheap plastic bag that ends up in the garbage right away or after a couple of uses.

I see nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately we're a society of idiots who don't seem to fully understand how we're fucking up our planet. If we don't change our ways we're all going to be fucked... we've already shown that we can't do it on our own, so if a few changes need to be forced on us, so be it.

Yep. Regulating everything is retarded but having a bit of regulation because we as a society are fucking IDIOTS in a lot of respects then it's fine. Middle ground Jay...

They plan on cutting the use of plastic bags by 50% by 2012, for environemntally friendly reasons obviously. I don't see a problem with it, they are simply replacing plastic bags with a more eco friendly alternative, one that doesn't take 100 years to biodegrade.

I don't see anything wrong with it, it should be encouraged.

Oh and this is not a city specific 'ban', its country wide. Many countries have already stopped using plastic bags altogether, so this is a good step forward.

WHOA, no plastic bags...what the hell is that, i like plastic bags, i say this because, like most people, i like to grab a whole bunch of those plastic bags from supermarkets and use them as garbage bags for small garbage bins. what am i gonna do for small garbage bags, buy them? come on give me a break, you wanna help the environment, how about encouraging the production of cars that run on sources of energy that do not pollute the air, they exist, but because oil=money, its not gonna happen anytime soon.

Buy a reusable garbage bin for every garbage in your house. Is it REALLY that hard?

As for "do you drive". Until the situation ECONOMICALLY changes where buying a environmentally friendly car or moving somewhere where you don't need one comes about for everybody that's ridiculous. I mean Jay you make a lot of sense on some of the stuff you say and hell I agree with a lot of it but some of the stuff you say is just ridiculous sometimes. Not using plastic bags is not the same as driving a car in terms of pollution. Obviously a car does more damage but there are limits to what someone can and will be willing to do to change for the environment given the circumstances in todays society. Either you start somewhere or you go nowhere.

Sure, but it won't work in this country for certain things. Some things need to be forced, others encouraged. Banning garbage bags won't kill people and make their lives super stressful.

Your arguments just keep getting more and more ridiculous and non sensical.
How does this kind of post invite any kind of adult discussion/debate?
