Miami music scene

When I came to Miami I expected a great electronic music scene, but in reality it's quite awful. In a nutshell, a vast majority of the club-goers are idiots, the clubs are insanely expensive and there are often weeks in between good parties. For example, check out the lineup for Liquifed Atlanta. Dave Dresden on July 18th and Christopher Lawrence on July 25th. Ticket prices are $15 and $12. Trance might not be your thing, but at least they have rotation. Tiesto, Steve Lawler, AVB, Acosta, Digweed and Mark Farina have all been there in the past couple months. The SF Bay area and LA are head and shoulders above Miami in diversity, style and class. Even Las Vegas is better than this.

What's going on Miami over the course of the next several weeks? Absolutely nothing. An idiotic "Columbian" party this weekend at Space. The music will suck and the crowd will be littered with the likes of Juan Pablo Montoya .. no thank you. How about after that? Absolutely nothing at Cameo or Mansion. Oscar G and Patrick M are okay, but I thought this was "Miami"? If this were truly a great music scene, we'd have a heavy rotation of world class DJ's.

And don't bring up WMC; that's just once a year. I'd gladly surrender one amazing party week a year for 35 or 40 really good parties.

Another point I would like to make is there are so many idiots at the clubs in Miami. I've been clubbing a long time and have never experienced the rudeness/immaturity as at the clubs as Miami. I go out to hear great music, dance and have a nice time. Sure it's nice to see pretty women, but that's not the focus. I rarely see people dancing and totally absorbed in the music. 95% of the time people are running around pushing or chasing someone else. If they are dancing, they are trying to get attention from someone else.

For posers I suppose the Miami club scene is good. For electronic music lovers it's not.

Two other points ...

Sander Kleinenberg is kicking off his Avalon residency this weekend and advanced tickets are $20. Can you imagine having Kleinenberg as a resident? Can you imagine seeing that caliber DJ for $20?

Obviously all the people at space are not idiots; just a large number of them. My gf and I met a really cool girl on the terrace at PVD.

Basically on point analysis

Yet I am sure someone will eventually come out of the woodwork and post some crap on here about how Space is the greatest club in the world, how lucky we are, .... blah, blah blah

It is pretty sad , I look at the EDM scene every where else and it so much better than Miami....I've been going to Trance Energy for the past couple years and Miami is soooooooo behind, but at the same time you can't really compare the two

You're preaching to the wrong crowd here. Most people that spend time on EDM message boards aren't the type of ppl that fuck up edm events (excluding some fltas lol). So chances are, everyone on here will agree with you and nothing will come out of this thread. So, go punch people wearing aviators inside in the face. And when the bartender tells you its $14 for your rum and coke, tell her to go fuck herself. ("you're a fucking ugly bitch. I want to stab you to death, and then play around with your blood"). Or just move.

sman1005, where did you move from?

Liquified Atlanta also brings in Dj's on a wednesday night for cheaper prices. Ticket prices for American dj's, like you mentioned, should not be worth more than 15 bucks. (dave dresden & christopher "the cheater" lawrence )

Anyways, what you say is true. I'm tired of Miami bringing in the same top dj's.

Just a heads up though. Sander K had a residency at Space during his prime years. Everything was much better when I was underage [props to Renzo and the guy from Cool Junkie that I ran into @ DEMF and some other friends for getting me in those times] haha.

One thing I def have to disagree with u is your sense of the crowd. I will glady take the "miami crowd" and swap them for any other party scene in the U.S.

I have partied in New York, Dallas and San Fran twice.. It's quite fuking scary. Miami's got class and rules and I appreciate them when I party in shit holes where ppl are busy starring at a Male turned female dancer in SF rather than paying attn to the dj/music. How many cuddle puddles did I have to walk through in the Civic Center in SF - The world may never know. The asians doing the washing machine. It's not a pretty site. Don't even get me started on New York. For jeebus sake. It's horrid out here. Very few clubs I can actually stand to go to where I absolutely love the vibe and/or ppl. (Cielo and Love)

Clubs in all the cities have built up a fan base on these "certain nights" and that is why these clubs can bring in the talent. Miami can't.

I agree I wouldn't move just for a better scene.. (IE: Still in Orlando)
but if I were to move anywhere then I would want to be near a place which hosted consistent talent.. If I had a choice of cities the scene would affect my decision..
