Should Bass...??

I've been producing trance now for a long time, but I've always been curious. You other producers, do you add stereo separation to your basslines, or do you not?

only at frequencies higher then, say, 100hz... something like that... the human ears are having a really difficult time telling where a bass sound is coming from, so i kinda see no point of using stereo on that, as you would notice that much...

why don't you just do what you think sounds good?

If you want a bass stereo then separate it.... if you want it mono then center the shit out of it.

Try it, then go try and get it cut to vinyl....
Needle jumps all over the place with wide stereo basslines.

prior to cutting a vinyl there is a process of mastering, if its for vinyl all sub bass is turned mono... and if you made a wide stereo bass it will probably have some mids, and those will be panned and still be wide, and as i said before the human ear barely notices the direction of bass sounds... so that argument is irrelevent IMO...

I'd say to trust your ears as to when it comes to adding stuff into your mix. I don't think there's any right or wrong for basslines.

Some stereo on low-mid freqs can fatten up your bassline (as I do sometimes). For really low frequencies however I'm not sure though if stereo will have any benefit so I tend to keep that side unaltered.

Which was exactly my point - basically, it is pretty pointless as it will either be fixed by the mastering engineer , or be played on a mono club system anyway...
