Weird way of getting a job
Even though I decided to focus on my studies rather than on a better job, a friend of mine convinced me that it would be a nice idea to apply for a position in the company he works for. At first, I'd help students interpret texts in foreign languages (such as English and Spanish), but he says I can ascend quickly as long as I do my job right. Because my current job is not going to take me anywhere, I decided to give it a try.
The manager liked me quite a lot, and I found out he too is a graduate student in linguistics. But, when the owner of the (small) company interviewed me, he talked me out of it, saying that I should focus on something related to my major (Japanese) and that I was over-qualified for the task.
Last week, my friend told me that, if I wanted the job, I should go there and talk to the owner once more. Being somewhat disillusioned by what happened, I decided not to go: maybe the owner was right, after all, and I should look for something that "made sense" in my curriculum.
Today, however, I found out that I got the job even though I didn't show up for the next step. I don't know whether I should be happy or not. Yay, I guess
