lotto: the atheist's religion

"hope is the denial of reality"

to me, this basically means that you should base your decisions in life on the best available information at the time, and not be dissuaded/propelled into action and/or belief by unsubstantiated nonsense, false hope, or dreams not based somewhere in cold, hard, real life.

So why do I feel compelled to waste my cold hard cash each week on 1:2,000,000 (or more) odds?

Anyone else gambling on stupid odds? (and no, I don't mean jennypie taking cock in her grungel from 50 blokes without a condom).

Gambling on stupid odds is fun as long as you're being entertained by a cheap thrill.

I buy the occasional scratch off ticket and play craps because I find it fun.

Yeah, I buy scratch-its sometimes. Never really win much. $50 here and there.

Those are the odds of winning a big lot, but some people don't really care about that. If you play regularly you actually do end up winning a lot of smaller lots (20, 50, etc). I know people who play lottery and actually have slightly positive profit margins from it. Personally I just hate the idea of introducing luck to any aspect of my life when I can do without it.
