i dont want to think anymore

Well, I mostly make "experimental" stuff these days, and eventually I want to try to incorporate some principles from classical music in my productions. Things like:

* Wide dynamic range from loud to soft, with crescendos and decrescendos.

* Tempo and time signature variation.

* Key variation.

* False starts and phrasing irregularities.

* Interchanging melodies between different timbres (some electronic music does this already).

* Complex form -- for example having an A part with two different melodies, a B part with two other melodies, a C part with two more melodies -- and within each part, writing variations on the melodies and "developing" them rather than just repeating them over and over.

* Counterpoint, with melodies that exist at the same time but work independently of each other.

Real classical music (stuff that uses the principles above) is generally unsuited to dance music because to get people dancing, EDM has to be constantly loud and stay at a consistent tempo and usually in a 4/4 time signature. If you change those things in a dance track it will often weird people out.

good reply and yes you need that 4/4 format in order to make em dance. untill you reach the breakdown ,that's when you can get away with the problem points made above. in responce to complex form i do use that approuch as best possable simply because i want the most intreasting parts of the track to come allive. i still belive its possable to incorprate classic with dance because there's so much in classic music not yet discoverd in modern muisc be it conventual or other wise.

I've heard some great dance tunes in 3/4. And people danced to them as well . It's not obligatory to make it 4/4. Just the easiest

True. After all, 3/4 was the time for waltzes in folk and classical music.

But I doubt you could get away with 5/4 or 7/8.

Also it makes it very hard for a DJ to mix...

not unless you make a dj friendly intro of corse. storyteller's point is true and seems the only possable way of a classical dance track. im gunna put it to the test or thoe i doubt it will be a strict classical pice of corse for the reasons menthiond earler. i still think it holds great scope for new hights in creating new tunes.because theres so many diffrent areas in classical the list is endless.
