Firewire is better for data exchange with high priority than USB . Adding a Firewire card would be the best way to go, if you have the budget for it, of course.
What are you looking for (inputs/outputs, 24bit/192khz perhaps, specific specifications)?
If less is more think about how much more more would be.

I agree with the above. A PCI to Firewire card will run you about $20.
For audio interfaces, which require low latency and accurate data exchange, Firewire is the way to go. For example, with the Apogee Mini-DAC, USB can only do 48khz/24bit. But if you use the Firewire interface, it can do up to 192khz. Manufacturers realize Firewire's superiority and put out their best external cards with a Firewire interface.
