I am trying to pass many files from my laptop to my desktop. The desktop has vista and the laptop xp. I am trying to open a connection between the 2 but i dont know how. Kinda like what they have in dorms. Is that possible or not?

Are you connecting them directly or through a router?

Adjust your shield harmonics to compensate for Vista<->XP fluctuations in the subspace. Try use a matrix re-modulator.

Well, since it's MS, I am assuming the PCs will have to have the same workgroup name in order to see each other (not familiar with Vista). On your XP machine, right click on My Computer and go to Properties. Then click the Computer Name tab and see what it's a member of...usually something like MS Home or Workgroup. Google how to check this under Vista as well.

First off you can't connect a network cable from one computer to another. Both computers must be plugged into a router and both must be in the same Workgroup. It's often easier to use an external hard drive or flash card to transfer the files. But like someone said google adhoc network.
