The Death of the internet come the year 2012.

There's a plan in place to destroy the internet1 we use now and force us onto internet2 by 2012. Internet2 will be totally restricted, only a few sites available for use and the rest of the internet will be blocked.

ISP's have resolved to restrict the Internet to a TV-like subscription model where users will be forced to pay to visit selected corporate websites by 2012, while others will be blocked, according to a leaked report. Despite some people dismissing the story as a hoax, the wider plan to kill the traditional Internet and replace it with a regulated and controlled Internet 2 is manifestly provable.

"Bell Canada and TELUS (formerly owned by Verizon) employees officially confirm that by 2012 ISP's all over the globe will reduce Internet access to a TV-like subscription model, only offering access to a small standard amount of commercial sites and require extra fees for every other site you visit. These 'other' sites would then lose all their exposure and eventually shut down, resulting in what could be seen as the end of the Internet," warns a report that has spread like wildfire across the web over the last few days.

Its pretty damn funny how some people react to the news. "not true" and stuff like, "more conspiracy theories" etc.If people just bend over and take this shit, the internet will die. There will be no sites like tranceaddict, trance.nu, digg, redit, all forums will die, small corporation sites will just be blocked also. Only the massive sites like google, youtube, myspace etc will survive, if they are willing to pay the upcoming fees.

Do you know anything, at all, about how the internet works? This kind of move is practically impossible, specially after the emergence of e-commerce and the web 2.0 - no sane head of state would even allow this restriction because of the obvious economic impact it would have. It would lead to the demise of modern e-commerce, which is too profitable to simply die like that, and they'd have to find a way to protect themselves from all hacking attempts that would follow.

I do have to agree, however, about one thing:

It's hardly impossible and they've been trying to regulate it for quite sometime now.

What it boils down to is that the major corporations want to be the exclusive content providers so that they can charge everyone more for it but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it also has something to do with quelling political dissent online (see the last video for that.)

Hahaha. I think you need to do a bit more research in to network protocols, packet switching, routing, and ISPs. E-commerce will not "die" and in most likely not be affected at all with the exclusion of net neutrality. As a Computer Science major, I completely cracked up at your post, displaying a very minimal to non-existent understanding of computer networking . There are countless ways to control traffic .

ah, this one again. *If* this were to happen, what would prevent another company from coming along and providing the same service we had had before, effectively driving all the restricting companies out of business? Government regulation? Ha - I think people would suddenly find themselves voted out of office.

Yeah, just like civil liberties and rolling back authoritarian legislation are a big concern for voters today right? LOL, dream on. People don't really seem to have much of a problem with the erosion of democratic institutions and values. They seem to be more than satisfied and pacified being corporate whores. What exactly are you going to do? Protest?!?! Sure, you'll accomplish a whole lot... like getting pepper sprayed, tased, or arrested. Although there are probably many other coercive modes the state may employ.

Considering that Comcast already engages in traffic management under the guise of relieving network congestion, I would hope that other companies would at least try but they would most likely be charged a hefty premium to use the proposed infrastructure. It's hard to say, though, because it might be extremely difficult for a startup to take on major corporations like Comcast and Verizon.

Don't worry, even in the absence of net neutrality, they will have plentiful access to porn and online gaming. Content like that will now be censored out.
