Then this is obviously a camera that is many many steps above what you can deal with.

Point and shoots are where you should stay.

get the $300 50mm 1.4 or even the $80 50mm 1.8 and you can do most of those looks with ease. Just might have to step back a bit.

I'm aware of that. Not interested in the D90 because of its video. It has good IQ and I get a hookup on it. A D80 would also be OK.
